Ms Bloggerette63: No, I found the picture in the Union County library a few days ago and thought our classmates might be interested. If I remember correctly, this particular picture was taken at the Belk Store's grand reopening after a major face lift. I do remember the construction work: a new facade and the sidewalk striping around that time. Maybe one (or more) of our classmates has some input? I also found an earlier picture of the store, dating back into the late fifties, I'll post later for a "before" and "after" effect.
Mary Eda: Good thinking on the whistle! Here's an interesting thought - the child facing you, walking on the right, would be around age fifty right now.
