Coca Cola Police
.Do you remember John D Hodges? …Lancaster Avenue? …the Coca Cola police? …the student safety patrol?.
Surely, you recognize Mr Kirkman. How about the other gentlemen in this picture?.
Should we move on to TEST YOUR AERIAL SKILLS (Level 3)? Or, fall back to the safety of another PET SHOW PICTURE?..

Oh, for goodness sakes! Here I am again with another question! How about a nice parade picture? Decisions. Decisions!
I am laughing at that title "Coca Cola Police"........Mystery Blogger, you do make things fun.
Had totally forgotten about those stand-up signs.
Margaret, glad you've already jumped in with the ID help. Of course, I remembered Mr Kirkman, but wasn't too sure about anyone else. Now your names all sound familiar.
Since it's a John Gulledge Photo.......John, do you have any more insight into what was happening that day? (Maybe the Coca Cola Police were new??)
Regarding your questions, Mystery Blogger........here's another one. Why not post all three of your suggestions? (We loved the pet show ones, the Aerial Views/best kind of trivia, and another parade shot, fun)
Just any time you want to.......but soon!
The two signs in this picture are front and back. Driving toward the school zone, a motorist was greeted with “SLOW – SCHOOL ZONE” (frontal view). As he left the school zone, the opposing sign reminded him to “DRINK COCA COLA” (rear view).
Do you have a picture of Mrs Williams’ first grade? …picture of the Benton Heights first grade(s)? If so, would you police share?
The Coco Cola policemen were new. They were given to the police department or the schools. I can’t remember which at this time. They were to be used in front of John D. Hodges and Walter Bickett schools. I believe the policeman (second from left) was Jesse Helms Sr. Later someone stole one of the policemen. Does anyone know who that might be?
John, this is funny. I have a friend here in Winston-Salem who collects vintage signs and has one of the Coca Cola policemen. I thought about hauling it to Myrtle Beach for a class reunion picture. I can see the headlines now, "Class of '63 BUSTED!"
OK, the man on the far left is Lott Rogers, City Manager, next is Jesse Helms Sr. (father of NC senator), next is Dick Marable, mayor. Then Margaret has named the ones on the other side: Harvey Morrison Sr., W.R. Kirkman, and Hall McGuirt.
