So, even though I don't know much at all about MHS football history.........
Recognizing some of the players on the back row, probably freshmen(?)....would make this photo about school year '56-'57?
Seems unusual that photo was made on the "VISITOR's Bleachers/side", instead of HOME side, like later years.
Not sure if that's what you meant.
Nicely ordered jersey numbers (hey, I'm a math major......I notice things like that), which wasn't always done.
But maybe your questions have something to do with "just 4" helmets on the ground in front??

The year is probably 1957 because the varsity is made up mainly of the Class of 1958 (wouldn't their picture have been taken in the fall of their senior year?).
Front Row L to R: Joe Gordon, Tom Presson, Bobby Beaty, Bobby Booth (?), Alton Russell, ?, Craven Williams, Johnny Hybarger, Billy Dellinger, Bruce Griffin, Butch Shoemaker. Second Row L to R: Jack Presson, Mike Pope, no. 63 is Maurice (Lou) Walters. Third Row L to R: all I recognize is no. 25 Dick Worley
In the third row.....I think
#27 is the _____Mitchum
#35 is Eura Gaskins
#40 looks like Jim Wellborn (Susan can tell us for sure).
The coaches were Harry Jaynes and Harold (Froggy) Funderburk

The year was 1957. Actually, three unusual things caught my eye: #1. the players were in numerical order. #2. the picture was taken on the visitor's side of the field.
So, what's the third thing?
No, that's #4. I missed that.
My #3 was the fact that no coaches (staff) are present in the picture.
Is that Jimmy Rabon and Donald House whom no one yet has identified on the 3rd row?
